CDL Class A Truck Driving
Lake Superior College’s 11 week CDL Class A truck driving program consists of the following courses.
Online CDL Theory Course: This course prepares you to take your permit exam. Your permit is required prior to any on-road training.
CDL Class A Range/Skills and Road Driving: You will learn how to maneuver a large combination vehicle in confined spaces, including backing skills on our driving range. Once you are proficient in the range/skills, you will finish with road driving.
CDL Class A License Test: The final component of the course is scheduling and taking your CDL drivers examination, where you will be evaluated by the DMV for pre-trip and road skills. One trip to the DMV as part of the course fees.
More information about the training schedule, expectations and processes will be offered during orientation on the first virtual meeting of your CDL Class A Theory class.
Pre-Program Requirements
Students must be able to pass and possess the following:
- Driving Record: No major driving violations in the previous five years
- DOT physical
- Pass a drug/alcohol screening
CDL Class A Program Cost
The cost of this program is $3,900.00 per student. This fee includes:
- Textbook
- Drug and Alcohol Testing
- Cost of physical for DOT CDL Requirements
- One (1) attempt at CDL license test at the DMV
Fees do NOT cover the cost of permit tests, state license examination fees or driving record checks as these costs vary from state to state.
Grants and Financing
While our program is not financial aid eligible, there may be payment/financing options available to you from private sources.
